Matthew Collings - Splintered Instruments
Alright, alright, so the only place you could buy the fucking thing was at the album launch shows in November. Alright, alright, alright, so I first heard the buggering thing well over a year and a half ago. ALRIGHT, I STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT THE ARTWORK IS.
Although Splintered Instruments is obviously eclipsed by Collings’ stellar work in the borderline-genius sonic trailblazers Convex Mancave, whose superlative Dance of the Mancavettes EP stole the show entirely in 2012, it contains musical elements favourable to me. These include swirling shoegaze guitar, gigantic-sounding compressed, No-Lite No Sound-esque drums, and lava-like flows of glacial Icelandicness.
In a rare burst of sincerity for today, let me just say that the talented bugger has created a wonderful, wonderful record, and if you miss it you’re insane. That’s if you ever get a chance to get your hands on a bleeding copy…
The Convex Mancave of Indifference
Mr Lewis over at The Tidal Wave Of Indifference has been very nice about Convex Mancave during a splendidly entertaining interview with us today.
“This is music to be absorbed. Don’t even think about doing anything else while it’s on – it just won’t work.”
